Ohana Produce Distributes Food to 90 Families
At the Central District Service Center’s monthly Ohana Produce Program distribution, over 90 families were given fresh produce and non perishable foods. Over 20 volunteers from the military, Head Start Family Advocates, and District Council Members donated their time and energy to support this wonderful program. In addition, Itoshi, from the Aloha Medical Mission’s Outreach Program distributed information and took applications for free dental care. Aloha Medical Mission Dental Clinic is Hawaii’s only free dental clinic. It is open to anyone without dental insurance.
Employment Core Services at the Kalihi-Palama District Service Center
Clients of the Kalihi-Palama District Service Center have completed Milestone 2 of the Na Lima Hana, Employment Core Services Program. Seven participants completed the Pre-Employment Training course and received a Certificate of Completion for their efforts. The course covered the following topics: Career Goals, Pre-Employment, Introduction to using a PC Computer, Introduction to Basic Microsoft Word, Introduction to Basic Microsoft Excel, Creating a Resume, Budgeting, Interviewing, Completing a Job Application, and Mock Interviews. The employment workshops were conducted by Program Coordinator, James Upega. The participants were very appreciative of the opportunity to participate in the training and were able to improve their employability skills and receive assistance in finding full-time employment.
Head Start Staff Give Back to Community
Head Start Director, Lynn Cabato, Assistant Director, Robyn Antonucci along with Cluster 6 staff beautified the embankment at the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center (HARC). Everyone worked hard pulling weeds and making the area look beautiful. HACR treated the staff with lunch, and Oils of Aloha gave each volunteer a gift of lotion. HCAP is thankful for the opportunity to participate in service activities and support each of the communities that we work in.
Windward District Council Meets to Discuss Community Events
Windward District Service Center staff met with their district council members to discuss programs and events occurring in the Windward community. Council members assist staff by acting as liaisons between staff and the community we serve. Each HCAP District Service Center has a district council, which meets every other month. In addition, a member of each district council participates on the HCAP Board of Directors.
