SCSEP Participant Benefits from Wraparound Services
Marie first heard about the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) as a volunteer at the Susannah Wesley Community Center. Marie applied for SCSEP, and upon enrollment in the program was placed at Susannah Wesley to continue helping them as a Program Aide. When Marie was struggling with her rent, SCSEP staff helped Marie apply for senior housing assistance. Her application has since been approved and now her monthly rent is greatly reduced. Marie is very thankful to SCSEP for keeping her active and employed at Susannah Wesley and for helping her with housing assistance.
Na Lima Hana and Weatherization Staff Provide Outreach to Head Start Parents
This week, Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services (ECS) Program Coordinator Robin Fakaosi and Technical Projects Coordinator James “Jojo” Upega joined HCAP Head Start Family Advocate Aunty Lehua at one of her Parent Group Meetings. Robin and Jojo shared information with Head Start parents regarding the ECS and Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and how they, their families, and friends can apply for these programs. Robin and Jojo also shared some helpful Energy Saving Tips to help them be more aware of their energy usage and conserve where possible. Both Robin and Jojo are excited for the new program year and look forward to helping Head Start families any way they can.
HCAP to Participate in #GivingTuesday
From now until November 28, 2017, HCAP will be holding its annual #GivingTuesday campaign to celebrate generosity throughout the giving season. As a relatively new calendar day dedicated to giving, #GivingTuesday creates a community that encourages others to give more, give smarter, and to celebrate the spirit of contribution. And on a more personal level here in the islands, #GivingTuesday embodies the spirit of Aloha. It’s a day that reminds us that we are an ohana and we must all work together to make positive change happen.
#GivingTuesday is on November 28, 2017. Please consider supporting HCAP on this day of giving. Click here to donate to HCAP.
Halawa Head Start Families Receive Dental Hygiene Tips from Aloha Medical Mission Dental Clinic
Halawa Head Start had a great turnout for their latest family engagement event. The Aloha Medical Mission Dental Clinic paid a visit to the children and families of Halawa Head Start. Aloha Medical Mission, a HCAP community partner organization, remains committed to improving the oral health of underserved populations on Oahu. During the dental hygiene presentation by Aloha Medical Mission, parents learned about proper brushing techniques to model to their children and how often families should visit the dentist. Overall, it was a very engaging and informative event for both parent and child.
