Fatherhood Quotes

"Father involvement has a unique impact on children's outcomes, including cognitive development achievement, math and reading scores, as well as behavioral problems "

- W. Jean Yeung, Sociologist, University of Pennsylvania

Fatherhood Involvement

Oahu Head Start:

  • Recognizes that both mothers and fathers play an essential role in the healthy development of the children who learn here.
  • Recognizes that children benefit from a strong, cooperative relationship between mother an father.
  • Helps both mother and father become effective in helping their children become life-long learners.
  • Helps mothers and fathers understand and appreciate the vital and unique roles they play in their child's healthy development.

The Fatherhood Committe

Because of the importance of fatherhood, we have created our Fatherhood Committee, dedicated to encourage Fatherhood Involvement throughout our entire Head Start program.

Our Fatherhood Committee has brought fathers from arount the island to join in and be an active participant in their child's life.

With the support of mothers, teachers, and other staff members, fathers are more likely to engage in their child's education. Throughout the program, fathers have increased in attendance with participation in classroom activities such as kite-flying, breakfast with dads, art projects, and reading to the children.

The Fatherhood Committe continues to incorporate male involvement by creating the "Fathers of Hawaii, Ka Pono No Na Keiki" fatherhood fair. Our fathers are thrilled to spend quality time with their children while having fun. Last year was our inaugural fair at Keehi Lagoon park and a recap of the event can be viewed here.

HCAP Head Start is proud to be a program that promotes the bond between parent and child.
