HCAP Featured on KITV for Head Start’s 50th Anniversary
HCAP was featured on KITV-4 for its HCAP Head Start (HS) 50th Anniversary. In joining the country to commemorate Head Start’s 50th anniversary, HCAP Head Start celebrated by hosting a Family Fair on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena for Head Start children and their families, staff, alumni, and invited guests. The 2-hour fun-filled event consisted of interactive hands on activities relating to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) initiated by our very own HCAP Head Start Teaching Staff and Family Advocates.
The article quotes HS Parent Leilani Legatasia, where she states:
“She’s pretty smart for a five-year-old. I think she’s beyond that!” said Leilani Legatasia, a mother who credits her daughter’s success to the Lanakila Head Start program.
According to Legatasia, the federally funded program has helped her daughter become a well-rounded girl over the last two years.
“I’d say she would probably be behind because if I was going back to school, I wouldn’t have time to be at home with her and teaching her the basics like they are teaching her at HCAP,” she said.
