What is it?

Last year, over 2,500 charities, volunteer organizations, corporations and foundations came together in all 50 states to help others give more, give smarter, & celebrate the spirit of contribution. Visit the Giving Tuesday website: http://givingtuesday.org/

It started with Black Friday – the day after Thanksgiving – when many stores offer deep discounts to get people to buy holiday gifts early. Now it is followed by Small Business Saturday – supporting local businesses. Then comes Cyber Monday – a type of Black Friday  for online shopping. Hopefully you will save a little in all that to join us on Giving Tuesday – and support your favorite nonprofits this giving season. Of course, you can go ahead and donate now if you want and check one more thing off your list!

HCAP 2013 #GivingTuesday Goals:

  • Raise $1000 in donations
  • Raise HCAP community profile
  • Get 200 fans on Facebook – Like us on facebook.com/HCAPhi
  • Get 100 Followers on Twitter – @HCAPhi

Your support and involvement is part of our strategy! Please like us, follow us, donate, and share our goals with your network. We thank you in advance for your kind support.

Are you active on social networks?

If so, you can add these hashtags to your status updates:

  • #GivingTuesday – most active on December 3rd but you can start using it now!
  • #25CanDo – we’ll be sharing what your $25 can do to help others at HCAP
  • #UNselfie – take a picture of yourself showing your donation and/or how you help others

How did Giving Tuesday happen?

New York’s 92nd Street Y was the catalyst and incubator for GivingTuesday, with the United Nations Foundation providing their strategic and communications expertise. A team of advisors, including Adam Hirsch (Edelman), Rob Reich (Stanford University) and Mathew Bishop (The Economist), played a critical role in shaping GivingTuesday’s strategy. This year we expect it to be even larger. We hope you will choose to join in this massive online movement to remember others during the holiday season.

Mahalo to you from all of us at Honolulu Community Action Program, Inc!
