Central District Service Center Helps Mother Enroll in Phlebotomy Technician Training Program

Photo of Calementina

Calmentina is a mother and grandmother seeking to further her education. She is currently working at Walmart, but her goal is to pursue a career in the  medical field. Calmentina first contacted the Central District Service Center to inquire about receiving tuition assistance through HCAP’s Nā Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program (ECS). With the help of the Central District Service Center staff, Calmentina successfully enrolled in the Phlebotomy Technician Training Program with Professional Healthcare Educators (PHE).

Calmentina is currently completing her courses and reported that she is approaching her final exam. Since attending courses at PHE, Calmentina is motivated to pursue a career in healthcare and work towards becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN). Completing her phlebotomy training is the just the first step towards her future goals.

The Central District Service Center staff would like to congratulate Calmentina on starting her journey in the healthcare field and cannot wait to see how far she can go! If you are interested in receiving tuition assistance to attend vocational school, please email: NaLimaHana@hcapweb.org.

Hā Initiative Students Learn About Coding

This week at the Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program, a Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC),  students learned about coding! With help from their STEM teachers, students coded different designs using the computer program Python. First the students received one-on-one help from their STEM teachers to download and set up Python on their personal computer or tablet. Then the students were given instructions from their teachers and resources from the library to help them create different designs on Python. So far the kids have learned how to create a triangle and square spirals. The students had lots of fun learning to code and enjoyed seeing their new coding skills create awesome designs!

Do you want your keiki to keep learning and staying engaged while at home? To join the program, please email hcapstem@hcapweb.org.

Kalihi-Palama District Service Center Provides Client with Employment Assistance

Aveall was referred to the Kalihi-Palama District Service Center by HCAP’s partners at Pūnāwai Rest Stop. Before being referred to HCAP, Aveall had a job lined up, but unfortunately the job was cancelled when COVID-19 hit. Kalihi-Palama Community Workers quickly completed Aveall’s intake and gave him a bus pass to help him with transportation when seeking employment. Aveall recently received employment at Allied Universal Security Services as a Security Guard.

Our Kalihi-Palama District Service Center staff is committed to helping those who have been affected by COVID-19. Our staff are so happy for Aveall and congratulate him on his newfound employment.
