Head Start Staff Give Back During Waianae Christmas Parade

HCAP Head Start was honored to contribute to the success of the second annual “Christmas on the Avenue” holiday parade. On Saturday, December 9th, Nanaikapono Church and Neighborhood Security Watch collaborated with the Honolulu Police Department‘s District 8 Community Policing Team for the event. With over 10,000 people in attendance, this festive occasion brought the community together, fostering a sense of safety and love for families. This initiative aims to unite police officers and community members in the spirit of aloha, creating positive connections and strengthening community bonds.

HCAP Head Start ERSEA Family Advocates collaborated with various agencies and churches to support this meaningful event. The highlight of the evening was the collaborative effort to load five HPD vehicles and a trailer with over 2,000 Christmas gifts! Volunteers from HCAP Head Start assisted in distributing these gifts, spreading holiday cheer in Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead. HCAP Head Start was ecstatic to continue this tradition to celebrate the joy of the holiday season and help create lasting memories for families in Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead.

An Employment Success Story with the Kalaeloa District Service Center

Hiro has been working with the Kalaeloa District Service Center since August 2023. When first meeting with Hiro, he had expressed the need for assistance with employment. Though it has not been an easy road, Hiro was able to secure employment in September 2023. Since then Kalaeloa staff have continued to work very closely with Hiro to make sure he was provided with all of the services he needed to be successful.

With the assistance of Nā Lima Hana Employment Core Services, Hiro was able to get a HOLO Card to get to and from work and received assistance with the purchase of work attire. Hiro has now been with his employer for the past 60 days and has reached a very important milestone. Hiro states that he is really enjoying his new job, and feels so blessed that he is now able to provide for his family. Hiro also acknowledges that although there are still many goals that he wants to accomplish, he is very happy and thankful for the help that HCAP has been able to provide.
