Success at first Kalaeloa District Job Fair

Through the coordination of the Nā Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program, HCAP’s Kalaeloa District Service Center and Kumuhonua staff were able to host their very first Kalaeloa District Job Fair. Hosted by their partners, Kealahou West Oʻahu (KWO) Onemalu Transitional Shelter and Onelauʻena Emergency Shelter, the job fair was held on January 11 and included over 20 vendors such as: UPS, Alu Like, American Job Center, Helping Hands Hawaii, Ka Paʻalana, Ohana Pacific Health, Queen’s Medical Center and more!

Attendees included residents from U.S. Vets Barbers Point, Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF) Ka Paʻalana HOPE Shelter, residents of KWO shelters, and the general public. The fair ran from 9am to 1pm and offered attendees employment opportunities, as well as community agency resources, and services to better their lifestyles. It was happily reported that two of the attendees since the fair have been successfully placed in new employment through new employment partners, Aloha Hospitality Professionals.

The Benefits of Learning Through Play

Learning through play provides our Head Start and Early Head Start keiki with a plethora of developmental skills that will not only increase their knowledge base, but their cognitive abilities, social-emotional awareness, and preparedness for kindergarten. Structured and semi-structured play times provide our keiki with the ability to engage their fine motor, logic, reasoning, mathematical, and self-help skills. From learning about recycling, to using their words to effectively communicate their feelings, our keiki are provided with a head start in life. Play makes learning fun!

Kalihi-Palama District Service Center Welcomes SCSEP Worker

HCAP’s  Kalihi-Palama District Service Center in partnership with the The Senior Community Service Employment Program would like to introduce their new receptionist Carol. SCSEP works to provide employment assistance and training for low-income, unemployed seniors. Carol was able to find employment as a receptionist with the help of HCAP and SCSEP!

Carol’s duties as a receptionist include answering the phones, scheduling appointments for clients, assisting with walk-in clients, light office duties, and cleaning. HCAP and the staff at the Kalihi-Palama office are excited to have her a part of the team and appreciate all the work she has done so far with the office!
