Nā Lima Hana at the Keiki O Ka ʻĀina Annual Hōʻike Family Resource Fair
The HCAP Nā Lima Hana Employment Core Services (ECS) team attended the Keiki O Ka ʻĀina Annual Hōʻike Family Resource Fair to provide information and support to those in need and shed light on the opportunities available through HCAP services. Many families stopped by gathering resources as well as sharing stories about their prior experiences with HCAP.
The team valued seeing the positive reactions from families facing tough times learning about the type of help they could access, which they were previously unaware of. A heartfelt encounter with a mother holding her newborn stood out to the team. She was eager to learn about HCAP’s Head Start and Early Head Start program for her children to attend and expressed the bright future she hopes for them. The team guided her through the programs that she could benefit from. They explained the benefits of Head Start and how HCAP staff can assist her in exploring job opportunities and prepare for it through the ECS Program, including offering education funding. With tears in her eyes, She thanked the team for bringing her hope during a difficult time in her life.
Throughout the day, many more families inquired about HCAP services and shared their stories. While sharing information about HCAP services with the community, the ECS team also learned more about how the community can be better served and how HCAP has impacted the lives of many. Through firsthand encounters at outreaches such as the Keiki O Ka ʻĀina Family Resource Fair, HCAP staff are able to hear and see the difference they are making in the community.

Early Head Start Socialization at Kapolei Library
The keiki and families of HCAP’s Early Head Start (EHS) joined Ms. Cappie for a socialization day at the Kapolei Library. They attended Uncle Wayne and The Howling Dog Band’s performance that was filled with singing, dancing and fun!
In HCAP’s EHS program, keiki and families enjoy a monthly socialization that increases their awareness and access to community resources. It also promotes culturally and linguistically appropriate activities while fostering community and family engagement.

Windward STEM Students Learn About Fingerprints
At the Windward Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program, students learned about how unique their fingerprints are. They learned that fingerprints are a form of identification and that no one else in the world has the exact same set of papillary ridges and lines that are on their fingers. They learned that there are three main fingerprint patterns: loops, arches, and whorls. Fingerprints help police and criminal investigators solve crimes.
Students were also learning about affordable and sustainable cooking. This lesson goes hand in hand with the program’s emphasis on providing snacks and refreshments to students, so the keiki learned to make Rice Krispies in the microwave using rice cereal, marshmallows, butter, and brown sugar. It was a yummy treat that the kids could make themselves and enjoy.
