HCAP Head Start Parent Finds Employment through the Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program

Lana Ulu, a HCAP Head Start Family Advocate, referred Joy to HCAP’s Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program. Joy’s son recently completed his first year at HCAP Head Start and will be entering his second school year this fall. After learning that Joy was unemployed, Lana connected her with the Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program at the Leeward District Service Center. From the very beginning it was evident that Joy was determined to find employment and build a better future for her family. Joy had marketable skills and work experience, but was lacking a professional resume. With a little encouragement and a new resume, Joy found employment with Paradise Cove Luau, where she is now training new employees. Joy expressed her gratitude for all the support HCAP has given her. HCAP staff would like to congratulate Joy on all her accomplishments and future success!

On July 16, HCAP staff attended the 2016 Convoy of Hope Hawaii event at Richardson Field in Pearl Harbor. Many organizations and service providers gathered to share valuable information, resources, and services to the community. There were also a variety of free services and products provided, such as free haircuts, backpacks, children’s shoes, groceries and much more.

HCAP staff used this opportunity to share information about HCAP’s programs and services. HCAP staff also provided fun activities for children attending the event. The event was a great success, and hundreds of attendees visited the HCAP table.

The youth enjoyed the seminars and found them to be very useful and informative. Financial literacy is an important life skill that all youth should learn, so the youth benefited greatly from the presentation.
