HCAP Staff, Clients Attend and Participate in CSBG Public Hearing
On July 26th, HCAP staff and clients attended the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Public Hearing for the Hawaii State Application and Plan for FFY 2020 and 2021. Many of HCAP’s programs, including HCAP Head Start & Early Head Start Program, Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services (ECS) Program, and the Kupuna Independent Life Series, are supported by CSBG funding.
Past and present HCAP program participants, including current HCAP Head Start staff, provided moving personal accounts of how HCAP’s programs and services have positively impacted their lives. HCAP would like to thank everyone who turned out for the event. We could not have asked for better testimonies.

Mahalo to the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association and the Hawaii Hotel Industry Foundation
On July 31st, Planning & Development Specialist Tram Ngo attended the Charity Walk 2019 Grant Allocation Event at the Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant. The 41st Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, “A Tradition of Giving” was a tremendous success, providing support and awareness for organizations making a difference in the community.
We would like to thank the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association and the Hawaii Hotel Industry Foundation for hosting the event and providing funds for the Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program. HCAP was excited to be a fourth-year participant in this tradition and is already looking forward to next year’s walk!
Pastor Volunteers at Windward Ohana Produce for More Than 25 Years
Pastor Joseph Kalahiki has been a volunteer at HCAP’s Windward District Service Center for over 25 years. A Kahalu’u native to the area, he now travels from Moanalua to Kaneohe once a month just to welcome individuals and families receiving fresh fruits and vegetables at Windward District Service Center’s Ohana Produce food distribution.
Pastor Joseph has fond memories of helping out with Windward District Service Center’s Ohana Produce back in the day. He recalls when Windward District’s food distribution was located directly across from the Windward District Center. Each month, staff and volunteers would put up 10×20 tents to serve the people of the Windward side. Now the Windward District Service Center holds its monthly distribution down the road at KEY Project’s pavilion, servicing about 100 families each month.
Kalihi STEM Students Receive School Supplies from Ready to Learn Drive
The Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program is among one of the HCAP programs participating in the Ready to Learn (RTL) school supply drive. RTL school supply starter kits were distributed to students and their siblings at the Kalihi STEM Exploration Center at Princess Ka’iulani Elementary School. Ethan, an enthusiastic STEM student, and his brother, Alvin, were among the students who received free school supplies; they had registered for the school supply drive in June.
