Leeward Client Receives New Refrigerator from Weatherization Assistance Program
Barbara came to HCAP’s Leeward District Service Center seeking assistance with her electric bill, where she learned that she also qualified for the Weatherization Assistance Program. The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides Oʻahu households with energy efficient devices, including LED light bulbs, refrigerators, and water heaters to reduce their home energy consumption and increase their monthly energy savings.
After HCAP staff performed an energy audit on Barbara’s home, they gave her energy-saving education and a variety of energy efficient measures. Barbara’s home was fitted with several small measures, including a faucet aerator, handheld shower head, and LED light bulbs. She even received a brand new ENERGY STAR refrigerator to replace her older and less efficient model.
Barbara shared that the services were fast, and she had a great experience with the Weatherization Assistance Program. “We’re so happy,” she said.

Former Kumuhonua Participant Maintains Stability in Permanent Housing
Staff at HCAP’s Kumuhonua Transitional Living Center recently received a heartfelt message from a former participant, John, expressing his appreciation for the support he experienced at Kumuhonua. John secured permanent housing in 2020, and has since been residing at an affordable apartment complex in Wahiawa.
Although he is unable to work due to physical challenges, John shared that he is grateful to be living life to the fullest. He is making sure to exercise and attend his doctor’s appointments, and has been enjoying listening to music. Many past Kumuhonua participants have also secured permanent housing at the same apartment complex as John, so he has made many lasting friendships that feel like family. Kumuhonua staff were happy to hear from John, and are proud of him for maintaining stability over the years.

Head Start Keiki Play Bingo to Practice Shape and Color Recognition
The keiki at Kuhio Head Start had a blast playing Bingo as a class! They exercised their color recognition, shape recognition, and fine motor skills while playing together in a large group. The children intently looked at the game pieces placed on their Bingo cards and helped their peers do the same, so everyone was a winner.
