Central Client Earns Medical Billing and Coding Certification Through ECS

Previously, Bobbie-Rose was referred to HCAP’s Central District Service Center from Hawaii Medical College (HMC) for assistance with obtaining her Medical Billing and Coding certification. Through the Nā Lima Hana Employment Core Services (ECS) program, she successfully completed Job Readiness Training, received tuition assistance, and started her classes at HMC. 

Bobbie-Rose has been a stay-at-home mom for some years and felt that it was time for her to pursue her own career path to become more self-sufficient and take care of her family. While going through her required externship for school, Bobbie-Rose learned how to apply what she learned in the classroom to real world situations and exceeded in performance to which they decided to hire her after she officially completed her certification. After successfully completing her Medical Billing and Coding program, she has reached a milestone of being employed for over 30 days. She enjoys her job and continues to meet and exceed not only her personal goal of providing for her family, but also ECS milestones. 

While still a client at the Central District Service Center, Bobbi-Rose continues to receive supportive services as needed. To this day, she maintains communication with the HCAP Central staff and is always excited to provide updates on her progress. The HCAP staff and ECS program continues to wish Bobbie-Rose the best as she continues down her own career path and journey towards self-sufficiency.

Head Start Keiki Engage in Outdoor Play & Learning

HCAP Head Start promotes and fosters the well-rounded growth and development of children through the incorporation of play. Play-based learning, both indoor and outdoor, enhances cognitive development, strengthens social-emotional concepts such as emotional regulation, motivation and self-confidence, and heightens their bodily awareness and coordination. Children across the program enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities that provide intentional space and opportunity for them to engage with their environment.

In activities like dramatic outdoor play, children pretend to be butterflies stretching out of their cocoon and flying around. While indoors, they develop their mathematical skills through simple computations and counting, while pretending to be a cashier at the grocery store. The integration of intentional play-based activities ensures children are provided with essential skills to be successful in kindergarten and life.

Hawaiian Electric Donates Its 2026 Annual Hygiene Drive to HCAP’s Kokua E Hanai Keiki

In April, Hawaiian Electric’s Revenue Management and Customer Ombudsman team dropped off hygiene products from their yearly Toiletry Drive to support HCAP’s Kokua E Hanai Keiki (Help Feed the Children) program. This year, The Hope Initiative and Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra joined the drive to support young girls having better access to feminine hygiene products. Many young girls from middle- to low-income families struggle each month to afford feminine hygiene products. 

With these generous donations, families facing hardship will receive additional assistance when they need it most. HCAP would like to give a big mahalo to Joanna Markle, David Tokuda, Nishalei Tolentino, The Hope Initiative and the generous young women at Hawai‘i School for Girls at La Pietra for all of the support they are giving to our communities. HCAP’s Central District Service Center was honored to be the recipient of such a thoughtful donation and will be helping families and individuals affected by the Kona Low storms.
