Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

On Friday, June 20th, the Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program hosted its Annual Volunteer Celebration Luncheon at Ryan’s Grill located in Ward Center. Volunteers were treated to a delicious lunch and given a recognition gift to show appreciation for their ongoing help and support throughout the year. Students created beautiful hand-made cards thanking each of the volunteers. Hā Initiative volunteers contributed over 1,200 hours of service across the 4 STEM Exploration Centers since June 2013. Community Outreach During LIHEAP

In the month of June, the Leahi District Service Center helps low-income individuals and families, including people with physical disabilities and the elderly to receive assistance for utility payments through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This credit is especially important to the elderly because most of live on a fixed income and sometimes struggle to pay for basic utilities. LIHEAP clients, Celerina and Ruth are grateful for the assistance that HCAP provides each year. The Leahi Community Workers and intake aids travel to various housing sites such as Kalakaua Homes, Hausten Gardens, Moiliili Community Center, Wisteria Vista, Manoa Gardens, and Kamakee Vista to provide assistance to low-income individuals and families that cannot make it to the Leahi office. This outreach enables the district to reach and help more vulnerable and underserved people within the community.

Na Lima Hana- Creating a Better Future for Program Participants

This week the Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program held Employment Preparation Training with 5 participants at the Central District Service Center, through their partnership with Module 20 Work Furlough Program. To date, over 120 Na Lima Hana program participants have completed Employment Preparation Training. Over 60 program participants have obtained employment. HCAP congratulates all program participants who have achieved these milestones and made progress toward long-term employment and self-reliance.

Bank of Hawaii’s Live Kōkua Campaign

Bank of Hawaii employees have begun voting for the beneficiaries of the bank’s 2014 “Live Kōkua Giving Campaign.” HCAP is fortunate to have been selected as one of the potential beneficiaries; however, we still need the support of you and the Bank of Hawaii employees.
Please take a moment to ask your friends at Bank of Hawaii to vote for the poverty and homeless category, and support HCAP. As you are well aware, all of HCAP’s programs and services are intended to alleviate the conditions of poverty in the community. HCAP’s 2012-2013 Annual Report

We are pleased to present our annual report for the 2012-2013 Program Year. Despite new and continuing challenges, including unexpected events such as Federal sequestration, HCAP continued to deliver all of its programs and services without negatively impacting the numbers of individuals and families served. In fact, the program year saw an increase in both our programs and overall impact in the community, some of which are highlighted in the report. In all, HCAP provided services to over 20,000 low-income individuals and families during the program year.
