HCAP Bids Farewell to Head Start Director Lynn Cabato
On March 22, 2017, HCAP Head Start Director Lynn Cabato was recognized and congratulated by the Hawai’i State Senate during Education Week at the State Capitol for her years of service. Lynn has devoted the last 41 years to HCAP Head Start and will be retiring on March 31, 2017. In her tenure with HCAP, Lynn has served in some of the most challenging positions in the organization, developing her skills, knowledge, and abilities in the areas of early childhood development, program development, fiscal management, collaboration, and networking. She has been a role model, mentor, and inspiration to many HCAP staff throughout the years. HCAP would like to thank Lynn for her dedication and passion to Head Start’s philosophy and mission, and send our best wishes to a well-earned retirement!

Our phone number remains the same at (808) 521-4531. If you have any questions about the new location or our services, please call us and we will be happy to help. We look forward to seeing you at our new location.
Leeward STEM Students Paint Foam Pieces
Last week at the Hā Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program’s Leeward STEM Exploration Center, students did crafts over Spring Break. The students explored the world of art. They cut out recycled foam pieces, painted the foam pieces, and created representations of food. The week prior, they had learned about nutrition and food groups. Each student was given a paint brush and different art materials to choose from. The students’ imagination was challenged and they developed different types of colored foods.
Former First-To-Work Participant Finds Employment
Carly started volunteering at the Leeward District Service Center as a First-To-Work (FTW) participant. As a young single mother with no work history, Carly gained the training and experience she needed through Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services (ECS) Program’s Job Readiness training. While volunteering as the front desk receptionist at the Leeward District Service Center, she learned communication skills as she answered telephone calls, took detailed messages, and greeted clients. During the holiday season, Carly was thankful for HCAP’s referral to the Adopt A Family (AAF) Program, a seasonal program that links individuals and families in need with donors in the community; she and her son received generous gifts. By January, Carly landed her first job. HCAP staff witnessed the growth in Carly’s work ability and confidence, and could not be happier to see her achieve all her employment milestones.
