Nā Lima Hana Participant Works Toward Phlebotomy Career

Saysha, a single mother of two, reached out to HCAP’s Leeward District Service Center seeking to become a certified phlebotomy technician. She had left her previous job at Target due to pregnancy complications, and hoped to pursue a new career path. With tuition assistance through HCAP’s Nā Lima Hana Employment Core Services program, Saysha enrolled at Hawaii Medical Training Center, and began to work toward her longtime goal of becoming a phlebotomy technician.

Saysha recently completed the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Training program. As for her next steps, she hopes to work in a hospital setting, such as Kaiser Permanente or Kapiʻolani Hospital. Leeward District Service Center staff are proud of Saysha for completing her training program, and are excited for her new job prospects.

Head Start Keiki Explore Plant Life Cycle

Jacob from Kaʻiulani 1 Head Start loves reading! While independently reading The Popcorn Book, he learned that popcorn kernels were corn seeds. By drawing and labeling each step in the plant cycle, Jacob developed his fine motor, language, literacy and vocabulary skills. He hopes to one day plant a corn seed and watch it grow!

Windward District Staff Conduct Outreach in Kahuku with Koʻolauloa Health Center

Windward District Service Center staff teamed up with Koʻolauloa Health Center to conduct a door-to-door outreach sweep in Kahuku. Community Services Manager Sonny Preston worked with Koʻolauloa Health Center Outreach Worker Harry Waa to ensure that kūpuna housed in the area were included in the outreach efforts. While visiting kūpuna, staff from both agencies shared how HCAP and Koʻolauloa Health Center can offer vital services to seniors in need, including electric and food assistance from HCAP, and medical coverage and care from Koʻolauloa Health Center. These outreach efforts will continue in the coming weeks.
