HCAP Rapid Re-housing Program Helps Couple Obtain Housing

Dennis and Camille had rented a home for many years, but were abruptly informed by the landlord that they needed to move out because the owners had decided to sell the property. Dennis and Camille were devastated, not knowing what the future held for them. When time came to move, Dennis and Camille found themselves having to live with family because they were unable to find a place to rent.  Not long after moving in, they felt they were becoming a burden to the family and decided to stay in their van at a beach in Waianae. Camille had quite a few health issues that landed her in the hospital several times while she was staying on the beach.  Her doctor became worried about her health, hesitant to release her until she had a permanent residence to go to. Camille decided to turn to her son for help and he was able to assist her with getting homeless outreach services. Camille and Dennis were contacted by Kealahou West Oahu and were referred to HCAP Rapid Re-housing for housing assistance. After several months of searching, HCAP RRH staff was able to assist Dennis and Camille in obtaining permanent, safe, and affordable housing. On April 7, Camille and Dennis, and the HCAP RRH staff were notified by Hale Mohalu that they had been accepted to move into a unit on April 13.

Pearlside Church Provides Home-Made Face Masks to Kumuhonua Residents and Staff

Pearlside Church has reached out to their seamstress members to assist in sewing face masks during the pandemic crisis.  They have donated thousands of masks to Hawaii’s first responders who sacrifice their lives to help those who have been impacted by COVID-19.  Kumuhonua has been blessed to receive masks from Pearlside faith-based members to ensure our residents are being taken care of during this time.  Kumuhonua residents and staff truly appreciate the community support and for thinking of them during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kumuhonua staff remains positive as they continue to serve the needs of their residents, while also keeping them hopeful as we work together to get through these trying times.  Mahalo to Pearlside faith-based churches for their time and sacrifice without any expectation in return.
