Kalaeloa Client Registers for GED Classes
Leahi District Service Center and Salvation Army’s Women’s Way Ke Ola Pono Host Group Interview Styling Day
HCAP Leahi District Service Center partnered with Salvation Army’s Women’s Way Ke Ola Pono (KOP) Transitional Program for the second “Group Interview Styling Day” at the Honolulu YWCA Dress for Success Program.
The Honolulu Dress for Success Program is headed by YWCA Oahu’s Director of Economic Advancement, Stephanie Hamano. Through this program, women can register for an interview and employment styling session to receive professional attire of their choice including tops, bottoms, dresses, jackets, shoes, and a handbag. The clothing provided in the ‘boutique’ are all donations collected through the friends and partners of YWCA’s Dress for Success.
Countless remarks from the ladies conveyed the happiness, positivity, and most importantly the confidence they felt after receiving their new clothes. One client reported that she was able to wear her new outfit to a job interview and happily reported that she got the job!
The Leahi District staff and partners express their deepest gratitude to the YWCA’s Dress for Success Program and are excited to happily continue this partnership.

The Love & Logic Parenting Curriculum provides parents an opportunity to gain practical and proven tools for raising respectful, responsible, and happy children. It provides a safe space and opportunity for parents to share their own experiences with using parenting tools and techniques. The parents at Ka Pua engaged in conversations around their first topic of “Handling Misbehavior without Breaking a Sweat” with Family Advocates Kalae Pedro and Cory Gordon Jr and supported by the Love & Logic trainer Allen Cardines Jr.

Kalaeloa Client Registers for GED Classes
Morissa became a client with the Kalaeloa District Service Center while attending Kalaeloa’s monthly outreach at Kealahou West Oahu’s Onelauena in September. While completing intake, Morissa shared that she wanted to find employment, but more importantly, obtain her GED since she had never graduated high school. She had stated that she was not financially in a position to pay for the classes, and wanted to know if this was something that HCAP could assist her with.
Kalaeloa staff informed Morissa that GED classes are a service HCAP offers and would be happy to assist with. Earlier this month, Kalaeloa staff helped Morissa register for her classes and she is looking forward to taking the placement test in January. Morissa is so excited to be taking on this new endeavor, and shares that her next goal is to secure employment!
