HCAP makes Hawaii Business Magazine’s Annual Top 250 List
HCAP recently made Hawaii Business magazine’s annual Top 250 list of Hawaii’s biggest companies based on total gross sales/revenue. To celebrate this achievement, Robert N.E. Piper, HCAP Executive Director, and Michael Hane, Director of Planning, Program Development, and Communications attended the Hawaii Business Top 250 luncheon at the Waikiki Beach Marriot Resort on September 17th. It was a great opportunity to meet other leaders in the business community. HCAP would like to thank Hawaii Business for the recognition and for the commemorative display.
Youth Services Students Benefit from Attending Job Fair
HCAP staff attended the Job Quest Job Fair as a Community Partner this past Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Neal Blaisdell Event Center. They provided information on the many HCAP Programs and services and shared current employment opportunities as well, resulting in 24 new applications! It is always a wonderful opportunity to share the history and mission of HCAP with the community at events such as this.
HCAP Youth Services C-Base students took a field trip to the Job Quest Job Fair. They put into practice the techniques learned in the Occupational Knowledge unit and put them to good use. We congratulate Nathan and Alexis for getting hired on the spot at Lanikai Juice.
Employment Program Participant Reaches New Milestones
Mickey has been a client at the HCAP Windward District Service Center since August 2013. Staff referred Mickey to both the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and the Na Lima Hana- Employment Core Services Program. However, after being offered a position as a maintenance worker at the Windward District Service Center, Mickey’s journey was delayed until May 2014 by health issues. We are happy to say that he has recently reached his 90-day employment milestone for the Na Lima Hana Program and, to this day, continues to be a shining example of perseverance and dedication.
Painting to the Beat: Head Start Classroom Promotes Creative Learning
In the HCAP Head Start Laie I classroom, the children were excited to participate in a painting activity. To help the children get ready, their teacher turned on music and encouraged them to practice moving and painting to the beat. In addition, a parent volunteered to help the children learn more about the collaboration of art and movement. The results were amazing as the children created wonderful masterpieces while dancing to music.
