Kalaeloa Client Employed at Pearl Harbor
Clyde has been a Kumuhonua Transitional Living Center (KTLC) participant with HCAP since February 2023. He was referred to the Kalaeloa District Office by KTLC staff. Clyde had several barriers which made it difficult for him to secure employment. Many of those barriers had to do with transportation, finances, and not having the proper documentation needed to work. Kalaeloa District Service Center staff assisted Clyde with obtaining a social security card, birth certificate, and Holo card bus pass to aid in his job search and attending interviews. Clyde has recently secured employment with Pearl Harbor Fire Watch and is going through the orientation process. Clyde has expressed how excited he is to be embarking on this new journey!

KTLC Resident Moves into Permanent Housing
The Kumuhonua Transitional Living Center (KTLC) would like to congratulate program participant, Tyrell, for securing permanent housing this month. Tyrell began his journey at KTLC in September 2022. Since then, he has been working hard to stay on track toward self-sufficiency. With the help of his Case Manager and partners at the Institute for Human Services, Tyrell was able to access the resources he needed to transition into a home of his own by September 2023. KTLC staff assisted Tyrell with obtaining his Section 8 voucher, and all of the necessary paperwork to complete the process.
Tyrell stated that he is so happy to be able to have his own home and is thankful for all of the support that he has received from the staff at Kumhonua. KTLC staff wish Tyrell the best of luck in this new chapter of his life!

Home Depot Builds Up Head Start
Home Depot Iwalei donated 270 build-your-own toy kits to HCAP Head Start. The Kipapa Head Start classrooms used the Flower Pot kits for a Family Engagement exercise with the keiki and their family members. Family engagement is a collaborative and strengths-based process through which HCAP Head Start Family Advocates, families, and children build positive and goal-oriented relationships. It is a shared responsibility of families and staff at all levels that requires mutual respect for the roles and strengths each has to offer. Family engagement focuses on culturally and linguistically responsive relationship-building with key family members in a child’s life.
